Updated Ways to Help

Posts like this are always the hardest for me to write. It is a strange thing and I know it is just my pride creeping in because the reality is... having others step alongside us in this journey with cards, gifts, food, and prayers has brought me to tears and shown me the hand of God in this situation. It has made me feel like I truly am bringing an army with me in this fight and it has eased so many extra burdens and worries.

I also know having been in the opposite position watching friends and family members fight for health, how helpless it feels and how it feels when I am allowed to do something, anything at all to help, no matter how seemingly small it might be.

So, because so many have renewed their asking for ways to help as news has spread that we are now stepping into the surgery side of this journey and because our family really does need the support of our people to face this, here is an updated list of the things that we need.

1. GoFundMe.  Here is the link to the go fund me that my daughter set up for us. I will not be working beginning in about 4 weeks. It is a big surgery, and the recovery time is equally as intense. I am honestly petrified about this as we have a household and kiddos still at home and because we are self-employed there is no paid time off options. Being a burden or making things difficult financially for the family is weighing heavily on me.

2. Gift cards. We would gladly accept gas gift cards (we will be traveling back n forth to Charleston for quite a while) or gift cards for either Publix or Kroger

Gift Cards to Hilton brand Hotels for lodging during the surgery itself. We already have a reservation in place.

Our address is 18 Elcock Circle, Irmo, SC 29063.

3. Prayers. Prayers are ALWAY needed and welcomed. Specific things to pray for in this season is of course, healing and eradication of this cancer, strength to face it and heal from the battering that the cancer and the treatment are causing, peace regarding all the unknowns and scary details.

Additionally, surgery specific...protection for my kidneys during the actual surgery and just after. Prayers for my lungs that they are strong and that I will not require extended ventilation after surgery. Prayers against all complications including blood clots, infections, pneumonia, trouble with the incision and swallowing. Prayers for wisdom for the surgeon and care when he is performing the surgery that there is no extra damage, that he gets all of the cancer successfully and that all who assist also have wisdom and Gods hands guiding them.

Prayers for peace for my family as they wait for me during surgery. Prayers for them as they assume care of me after the surgery that it is a smooth transition, that I am able to regain strength and normal routines as soon as feasibly possible and that we find balance and grace in the day-to-day moments to come. Prayers for our finances that God finds a way to provide and make ends meet and that we aren't burdened with worry over the details that he is working out.

4. Other Tangible needs. I have updated my amazon wish list to include a few things I know we will need for my at-home care just after surgery. This list will be updated once we are on the other side of the surgery, and I know more about what my specific care plan will be as each surgery and recovery is individual and slightly different.

As always, thank you for being a part of our team. Thank you for your love and for being a part of our lives and continuing to stand alongside us in this journey. It means the world to me and I can honestly say I am standing right now in part because of you!
